Dental ImplantsDental implants are small structures, shaped like screws, that are inserted into the jawbone and gums in order to support various types of dental restorations. These can include crowns, fixed partial dentures, and fixed complete dentures. We work with two different types of dental implants at New Life Dental. You may need to have a procedure before your dental implant procedure to prepare your jaw to support the implant. We can explain this, as well as the actual implant procedure, in more detail. Sinus LiftA sinus lift is used when you need implants in the upper jaw, and the jaw cannot currently support them. Sinus lifts lift the floor of your sinus to create more room for the bone to grow. We can then use a bone graft and tissue regeneration to get more bone tissue for the implant. All on 4One of our most common implant treatments is All on 4, a complete fixed bridge supported by a series of dental implants. This immensely beneficial treatment concept has revolutionized the way we replace missing teeth. A series of implants can be used for a partial or complete fixed bridge. In the past, a complete fixed bridge required a minimum of six to eight implants per arch. All-on-4 is a complete bridge that only requires four implants. Implant ProcedureAfter healing from any preparation procedures, we can schedule you for your dental implant placement. You will receive general anesthesia for any surgical procedure we provide. Once you are asleep, our dentist will open up your gum and drill a hole into the jawbone. The implant will be placed, and the gum will be sutured shut. Over the next few months, the implant will fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Once this is complete, we can open the gum again to expose the implant and place the abutment (false tooth). We use a dental cement, which we can harden under a special kind of light, to keep it in place permanently. It is normal to feel slightly sore following dental surgeries. As you heal, you will be able to resume a regular diet and oral hygiene habits. Treat the dental implant and abutment exactly as you would your natural teeth.
